Vouvray Brut Domaine du Clos Naudin Philippe Foreau, France

This is a life changing wine that ruined all other sparkling for me. It’s an earthy, not dirty, white wine. Flavors and aromas of fruit, floral and earth elements. The mixture of palate-coating richness and mouthwatering freshness is nothing short of amazing.

Great with cold leftover Piesanos pizza, meatballs, garlic butter rolls, and milk chocolate amaretto truffles.

Vouvray (“voo-vray”) is a white wine made with Chenin Blanc grapes that grow along the banks of the Loire River in the Touraine district of France. Although the label does not specify a vintage, this vin mousseux* is almost always from a single vintage and is left on the lies for at least 48 months. Philippe Foreau’s wines age remarkably well.

The vineyards are tended pursuant to organic methods – without the use of herbicides and worked with organic fertilizers. Production levels are approximately 25,000 bottles annually of sparkling wine made following the traditional “champagne” method.

*The French terms Mousseux and Crémant refer to sparkling wine not made in the Champagne region.
